Bedtime in our home has always been our time to connect with each other one last time before we close our eyes for the day. Since Ariana (who’s FIVE now as of this week, so sad) was young I tried to incorporate bedtime prayers but we were never consistent and I kept thinking that she was just too young to understand. Her curious mind asks me a lot of faith rich questions now though, so praying each night has been a must in our home. I love fielding her questions to the best of my ability. Some of them even make me stop and think for a minute. Conversations about who Jesus is, why do we love him, what are we praying for, where is Jesus and why can’t I see him have all happened at bedtime when her wheels were really turning. Averie at three years old now is accustomed to these stories and is the first one of us to hit her knees and pray.
I love listening to Averie’s tiny voice praying for the things that are most important to her: Daddy, Mommy, Sissy, her Kiki (princess blanket), and then some random loves of hers like bologna sandwiches and Daddy’s work. Ariana wraps up our circle of prayers with her thanks to Jesus to almost everything under the sun. There are times that Averie will lean over and whisper “Sissy done pray?”. At Sunday school a few weeks ago we had a preschool milestone event where the kiddos got their first Bible and as a group we talked about a new routine that our youth pastor was encouraging us to incorporate into our night.
